Battlefield earns Superior

Philharmonia celebrates 15 straight years of on-stage superior ratings

All three of the orchestras earned superior ratings, both on stage and in sightreading at the 2019 District Assessment Event held at Stonewall Jackson High School. The Philharmonia and Concert Orchestras had the distinguished honor of earning straight superior ratings. Congratulations to all of our students on this incredible accomplishment!

Orchestras Perform at 2018 District 9 Assessment

Congratulations to all of our students for beautiful performances at the 2018 District 9 Assessment Event. All groups earned a superior rating in the "on stage" category, and the Orchestra Ensemble earned an additional superior rating in sightreading.

The Battlefield Philharmonia earned the first ever scoresheet containing straight "A+'s", while the Orchestra Ensemble earned the first ever "A+++". Way to go!

Nicole Cheng elected 2017-18 President of the Orchestras​​​​

Grace Kim elected Vice President

Students selected Nicole Cheng to serve as the President of the Orchestras for the upcoming school year. Grace Kim was selected to serve as Vice President. Both perform the violin in the Battlefield Philharmonia and will be seniors in the fall.  

In early September, Nicole and Grace will select cabinet officers to oversee various council projects and responsibilities. 
Battlefield Philharmonia to Perform at
State Music Conference
Friday, May 26th 2017

The Battlefield Philharmonia Orchestra was selected to perform a full concert program at the Virginia Music Educators Association (VMEA) State Conference this November. Only a handful of choirs, bands, and orchestras are chosen to perform each year. Congratulations to our student musicians.

The performance will take place at the Omni Homestead in Hot Springs, VA. Please check back for more details regarding our performance when they become available.

Battlefield Philharmonia earns perfect scores at 2017 District 9 Assessment
Congratulations to the Battlefield High School Philharmonia for an amazing performance that earned perfect scores at this year's District 9 Orchestra Assessment. The ensemble, which includes nearly 60 members, performed grade VI music and earned straight superior ratings with "A's" in each and every subcategory.

Orchestra Ensemble Performs at District Assessment

Earns overall rating of "Excellent" performing VBODA grade IV music.

The Battlefield Orchestra Ensemble performed Thursday, March 9th at our annual district orchestra assessment, earning two superior ratings and two excellent ratings. You can find recordings of this concert below. The warm up was "Das Neugeborne Kindelein" by Johann Sebastian Bach (arr. Thurston), selection one was Farandole by Georges Bizet (arr. Isaac), and selection two was Marche Slav by Peter Tchaikovsky (arr. Gruselle).

Congratulations to the Battlefield Concert Orchestra for earning straight superior ratings at the 2017 District 9 Orchestra Assessment! Students worked tirelessly to prepare an amazing performance - kudos to these fantastic musicians for all of their hard earned success.  Our warm up was a G Major Scale, our first selection was March of the Meistersingers by Richard Wagner, arranged by Sandra Dackow, and our second selection was Synergy by Deborah Baker Monday. David Park and Eugene Choo selected for 2017 All-Virginia Orchestra
Congratulations to sophomore violinsts David Park and Eugene Choo for their successful auditions into All-Virginia Orchestra. This orchestra is comprised only of the best of the best from across the commonwealth. What a huge accomplishment for these students!

Battlefield Philharmonia performs at the Kennedy Center

Celebrating 2017 Music in Our School's Month

The Battlefield Philharmonia was one of four music ensembles in the Washington DC area invited to perform on the Kennedy Center's Millennium Stage. Nine students successfully audition for this year's Senior Regional Orchestra

Students had the opportunity to audition for the North Central Regional Orchestra on Saturday, September 24th. The auditions, held at Woodbridge High School, were well attended by students from all over Prince William, Loudoun, Stafford, Spotsylvania, and Faquier Counties, among other jurisdictions. With nearly 400 students auditioning for less than 100 spots, these auditions were extremely competitive.

Eugene Choo and Andrew Schlagel Earn Prizes in 1st Annual Concerto Competition

Freshman Eugene Choo earned the grand prize in Battlefield's 1st Annual Concerto Competition. In addition to a $250.00 Scholarship, Mr. Choo will perform the third movement of "Summer" from Vivaldi's Four Seasons with the Battlefield Philharmonia on June 1st.

Senior Andrew Schlagel won an honorable mention and will perform the opening movement of the Monn Cello Concerto on a date TBA.

Eugene Choo, Adrienne Hyde, Daniel Park, and Andrew Schlagel all earned spots in the 2016 All-Virginia Orchestra. This orchestra selects the best of the best from across the state to participate in the yearly honors concert. 

Adrienne Hyde earned the spot of principal cello.

Orchestra Students Earn Gold Ratings at the Heritage Music Festival in Orlando, FL
Both the Battlefield Philharmonia and the Battlefield Festival Orchestra earned a Gold Rating at the Heritage National Festival and Competition in Orlando, FL. These are the highest ratings a performance group can earn - congratulations to all of our students who helped make this possible!

Orchestras Earn Perfect Scores

Battlefield Orchestra Students Continue Success at District 9 Assessment

All three performing ensembles earned straight superior ratings at the District 9 Assessment Event on March 9th, 10th, and 11th.

The Battlefield Philharmonia performed the most challenging repertoire available, selecting repertoire from the "grade 6" category. Orchestra Ensemble performed "grade 4" repertoire, and Concert Strings performed "grade 3". Congratulations to all of our students!
